KITE Receives Two Mini-Grants for Enfield Unplugged Week

Enfield, CT – April 2021

Enfield KITE is excited to announce the receipt of two mini-grants from the Enfield Culture and Arts Commission to support Enfield Unplugged Week May 10th – 14th.

Unplugged Week encourages families to unplug and reconnect through games and activities scheduled throughout town. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, KITE had to think out of the box to bring traditional unplugged week experiences home.  The committee recognized it was more important than ever to provide resources to balance screen time with free and safe, tangible experiences for families. The American Academy of Pediatrics reports since the pandemic began, screen time for children has doubled.

This year, Enfield Unplugged Week is May 10-14. Participating families can choose from activities such as decorating and flying a kite, creating chalk art, building with LEGOS, and completing a scavenger hunt. Each activity can be found on the Enfield Unplugged calendar. Activity kits include materials to complete each suggested experience. 350 Activity Kits will be supplied in advance via a drive-thru pick up on May 6th from 5-7 pm at Alcorn School. The chalk and kite included in the kits were made possible by two Enfield Culture and Arts Commission mini-grants.  While unplugged week is not an in-person experience this year, KITE encourages families to post photos on social media using #EnfieldUnplugged to be entered for raffle prizes.
