Rocking Chair Readers

KITE has a new volunteer opportunity for Retired Seniors

Rocking Chair Readers is a program that places retired senior volunteers in local early childhood classrooms to serve as guest readers. Its purpose is to support and enhance the literacy development of young children while also providing opportunities for positive cross-generational interaction.

Guest readers will be paired with the host teachers based on age group preference and scheduling availability. Volunteers will be provided with any assistance they need in selecting books, and teachers will remain in the room during all visits. An orientation session will be scheduled at a later date. The program is slated to begin in September 2019.
